MVCAA’s Consumer Education Classes and Workshops Equip Families with the Tools Needed to Succeed
MVCAA offers Life Skills Workshops to both individuals and families enrolled in MVCAA programs or services, as well as members of the community! Our workshops focus on areas of employment, financial literacy, personal development, and professionalism.

Employment
- Learn relevant techniques to search for employment.
- Learn how to make a good first impression starting at the time of asking for and/or submitting a job application, including awareness of your body language and communication!
- Learn the importance of researching companies prior to applying.
- Participate in an interactive “Goals & Aspirations” activity.
In this workshop you will learn the do’s and don’ts when creating and submitting resumes, cover letters, letters of recommendations, and job references, including general formatting and content in each.
- Learn about different types of job interviews and what to expect from each.
- Learn how to be more aware of your body language as well as your verbal and non-verbal communication.
- Learn the importance of researching a company before applying and how it prepares you for the interview.
- Participate in a Mock Interview activity to improve your interview skills and build your confidence to land the job you desire!
Financial Literacy
This workshop is for individuals who need to learn the basics of:
- Opening a checking & savings account
- Responsibly using debit cards and checkbooks
- Direct Deposits
- Reading and understanding a bank statement
- Reading and writing a check
- Money orders
- Online Banking
- Learn the benefits of establishing and using a budget.
- Learn tips and tricks to save money.
- Discuss what NOT to do with your money.
- Learn how to take control of your money, your goals, and your FUTURE!
Personal Development
- Learn about mindfulness and how it can help you in any given stressful situation life throws your way.
- Learn ways to manage stress effectively so it doesn’t interfere with achieving your life goals.
- Complete a personality test that helps you identify your strengths which can help provide clarity for your life’s path.
- Discussion about becoming a leader and how to develop your leadership skills and mindset.
- Learn about setting SMART goals and setting yourself up for SUCCESS!
Professionalism
Professionalism at Work:
- Learn what it means to “be professional”.
- Learn what professionalism looks like in almost all employment settings.
- Take a deeper dive into different communication skills and their importance.
- Participate in activities that enhance your understanding of professionalism. at work and teach you the benefits of being professional in your workplace.
